Declutter

01 What it does

Declutter takes the owner’s things out of a room: benchtop clutter, toiletries, cables, laundry, towels, rubbish, personal photos and pet bowls.

02 Pick a strength

Nothing is chosen for you. You must pick one of the two before it runs.

• Tidy up: clears the mess, keeps the furniture and neatens what stays.
• Clear out: clears the mess and the furniture, leaving you the empty room.

Tidy up leaves the room looking the way it would the morning of an open home. Beds are made with the bedding already on them, cushions are plumped, rugs are straightened, chairs are pushed in and cupboard doors and drawers are closed. Towels are taken away. Spills, crumbs, smudges and marks are wiped off benches, floors and glass. Nothing new is added, nothing is swapped, and every piece of furniture stays where it is.

Use Clear out when the furniture is doing the room no favours and you would rather stage it fresh.

03 What it never touches

Fixed fittings stay exactly as you photographed them: cooktops, sinks, taps, ovens, rangehoods, built in cabinetry, air conditioners, toilets, baths and vanities. The room stays the room.

Wear and damage stay exactly as you photographed them: scuffs, cracks, chips, set in stains, worn carpet and peeling paint. A buyer should see the property as it really is, so declutter never repairs it.

Personal photographs are removed on both settings, which is usually what you want when the owner’s family is on the wall.

04 How to use it

1. Open a finished photo and choose Declutter.
2. Tap Tidy up or Clear out.
3. Run it. It uses one credit.
4. Keep the result, or discard it and try the other setting.

05 On the website

Declutter is on the website too, but without the choice of strength. There it always does the full clear out.
